Laurie Wagner has been making cloth dolls as a hobby for more than 30 years. Sculpting figures in polymer clay and needle felted wool is a more recent development.
Ranging in size from dollhouse miniatures to about 28” tall, the characters and their costumes are inspired by historical fashion and fantasy. Their faces are unabashedly lovely and serene, with the occasional spark of spunky attitude showing through.
Laurie designs her own patterns, but also makes dolls from other designers’ patterns, with their permission to sell those dolls in limited quantities. She naturally selects those designers who reflect her own style, so that all of her creations reflect their maker.
Laurie has been Education Coordinator for Art Gallery Swift Current since 1994. She studied fine arts and holds a B.Ed degree from the U. of S. Exploring new materials and methods for making things, and sharing that experience with children and adults in hands-on workshops keeps her energized.
