My husband Rick and I live in Swift Current where we are raising 5 children between ages 13 and 8. In addition to my crafting career I babysit at home, and in my free time I love to bake and bellydance.
When I was 19, I taught myself to crochet by watching a friend. Since then, I have always had a crochet project in the works. I still can’t reliably read a pattern, and am told I hold everything wrong!
Early in 2005 I saw a simple, chain crocheted copper wire necklace in a crochet magazine. I HAD to try it. As a plus size woman it was amazing to be able to make a bracelet that actually fit my wrist. Today, bracelets are still my favourite pieces to make. By that fall I had created enough items to enter my first craft sale. In 2008, I began making mixed media purses, wallets and cell phone cases using a combination of crochet and aluminum can tabs.
All of my work is one-of-a-kind, using my own designs. Most of my jewelry incorporates semiprecious stone beads. I also love to use handmade beads. A large portion of my jewelry is crocheted with copper wire. I am drawn to the natural warmth it brings to my work. Much of my inspiration comes from different colour combinations I find all around me. I am also always open to taking custom orders. It’s very rewarding to be able to make a special item for someone, and see how happy something you made can make them.
Currently, I am trying new ideas, and pushing what I can do with both the wire crochet and the aluminum can tab works.
